Write a phone greeting that books more jobs
Your greeting is a sales pitch you record once. Here's a simple formula that turns callers into booked jobs.
The 4-part greeting formula
- Name the business clearly: 'Thanks for calling Northshore Plumbing.'
- Reassure them they're in the right place: 'We handle leaks, clogs, and water heaters across town.'
- Tell them exactly what to do: 'Leave your name, number, and address and we'll call you right back.'
- Set a time expectation: 'We return every call within the hour during the day.'
Why it works
A vague 'leave a message' greeting gets ignored. A greeting that names what you do, tells the caller precisely what to say, and promises a callback time makes them comfortable leaving the details you need — so you can call back ready to book, not to play phone tag.
A ready-to-use script
"Thanks for calling [Business Name]. We're probably out on a job right now, but your call matters to us. Leave your name, number, the address, and a quick note about what you need — and we'll call you back within the hour during business hours. Thanks, and talk soon."
Record it in a quiet room, speak slowly, and smile while you talk — people can hear it.
